What is a yoga life coach? How yogic coaching blends yoga philosophy, Ayurveda and Vedic astrology into practical guidance, and who it helps most.

A yoga student seated in quiet concentration

Every so often a student lingers after class, and the conversation turns from hamstrings to life. A job they’re unsure about. A relationship pattern that keeps repeating. A feeling of being stuck. Those conversations are where my coaching work began, and they’re the best answer I can give to the question, what is a yoga life coach?

What is a yoga life coach?

A yoga life coach helps you understand yourself, your patterns and your next steps using the wisdom of yoga, rather than only the tools of conventional coaching.

In my work, that means bringing together three systems:

  • Yoga philosophy and the Vedic teachings, for spiritual guidance and perspective
  • Ayurveda, yoga’s sister science, for understanding your constitution and current imbalances
  • Vedic astrology, for insight into life path, timing and patterns

The goal is practical. You leave with clear guidance on how to apply what we talk about to your daily life.

Is yoga coaching the same as a private yoga class?

No, and this surprises people. My coaching sessions are entirely conversational. The “yoga” here is the philosophy of yoga and the Vedas, not physical practice. We don’t roll out mats.

That said, I often recommend meditation, asana or specific classes to support you between sessions. If you’d like one-on-one physical practice, that’s what a private yoga session is for.

How is it different from regular life coaching?

Traditional coaching usually focuses on goals and action steps. That’s useful, and we do talk about practical steps too. But yogic coaching looks at the fuller picture: your body, your mind, your energy, your tendencies and the larger arc of your life.

For example, two people might both say they feel stuck. Through an Ayurvedic lens, one might be in a heavy, sluggish state that needs movement and lightness. The other might be scattered and anxious and need grounding. The advice for each is very different, even though the words they used were the same.

What happens in a coaching session?

Each session is guided by what you bring, within a clear process:

  1. Where you are. We start by understanding what you’re experiencing, what feels unclear and what you’re working through.
  2. Looking through several lenses. We use Vedic astrology, an Ayurvedic assessment and yogic teachings to understand what’s happening and why.
  3. Practical direction. You leave with specific next steps, which might include meditation, asana recommendations, lifestyle changes, daily rhythms or new habits.

The point is to take the insight off the page and into your daily life.

What can you work on with a yoga life coach?

Common themes in my sessions include:

  • Life direction and decision-making
  • Relationship patterns
  • Emotional processing and clarity
  • Building consistent practices and habits
  • Navigating transitions
  • Understanding personal tendencies and cycles
  • Aligning your lifestyle with your constitution

Why bring Ayurveda and astrology into coaching?

Ayurveda teaches that each of us has a unique constitution, a natural mix of qualities that shapes how we think, eat, sleep, work and respond to stress. When you understand your constitution, a lot of patterns suddenly make sense, and the advice you need becomes much more specific.

Vedic astrology adds another lens: timing. It can offer perspective on the cycles you’re moving through and why certain themes keep showing up in your life.

Neither replaces your own wisdom. They’re simply tools that help you see yourself more clearly, so the choices you make feel more like yours.

Who is yoga life coaching for?

It tends to help people who:

  • Feel stuck or unsure of their next step
  • Are going through a period of transition
  • Want a deeper understanding of themselves
  • Are ready to build more intentional habits and routines
  • Feel disconnected from their purpose
  • Want guidance that brings their inner and outer life together

You don’t need to know anything about astrology or Ayurveda beforehand. If you’re curious about Ayurveda, our page on Ayurveda services is a good introduction.

Who leads the sessions?

I do. I’m Amanda DiGiovanna, founder of Revolution Yoga. My work draws on a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, 25 years of devoted study of yogic and Vedic philosophy and Eastern psychology, two decades of one-on-one spiritual guidance with clients and certification as an Ayurveda Practitioner.

What I hope people feel in a session is steadiness. I’ve been listening to people’s lives for over twenty years, and I’ve learned that most of us already know more than we think. Sometimes we just need help seeing it clearly.

A note on what coaching is not

Yoga life coaching is spiritual and lifestyle guidance. It isn’t therapy, and it doesn’t replace care from a mental health professional or your doctor. If you’re struggling with your mental health, please reach out to a licensed professional. Coaching can be a lovely complement to that care.
