Letter from Amanda: Serenity Is Contagious

A line from Satchidananda's Yoga Sutras that Amanda often needs herself: we can be serene even in the midst of calamities, and serenity is contagious.

Dear Revolution Community,

There’s a portion of Satchidananda’s translation of the yoga sutras that often repeats in my head. He says, “We are not going to change the whole world, but we can change ourselves and feel free as birds. We can be serene even in the midst of calamities.”

The line that repeats itself for me is “if we were to die in a minute, why not die happily laughing?”

He says, “We can be serene even in the midst of calamities and, by our serenity, make others more tranquil. Serenity is contagious. If we smile at someone, he or she will smile back. And a smile costs nothing. We should plague everyone with joy.”

I bring this to you this month as a focus as I often myself need this reminder. When our daily rhythm incorporates the limbs of the yoga practice, meditation, breath work, and yoga postures it makes a noticeable difference in our ability to maintain an inner serenity in the face of calamity.

On behalf of the whole staff we look forward to seeing you on your mat and are honored to hold space for your journey.

Peace and Love,
Amanda and the good folks at Revolution Yoga
