Dear Revolution Community,
Sometimes the human experience can feel isolating. Have you ever thought to yourself, “I must be the only one who feels this way?” Or have you asked yourself, “Am I the only one like this?” It vindicates the experience of needlessly struggling alone. We tell ourselves, “I must be, so I’ll just deal with it by myself.”
And while humans are as unique as the fingerprint they carry on their hand, what to expect as a human living life, remains fairly predictable. Things come together and things fall apart.
The yogis, the Buddhists, all the sages and rishis spend a lot of time trying to help students understand a new way to relate to the coming together and the falling apart. A way that would leave us unperturbed by such a predictable thing.
A dear teacher of mine told me this week that all humans are in a constant state of free fall, barreling through space, fearful of how painful it will be to hit the ground, trying everything in their power to control the outcome. However, they do not realize what the truth is; that there is no ground.
So how do we get comfortable in “groundlessness”?
The mind is mired in “maya” or illusion. We see the world around us as one thing, but science, quantum physics, and the ancient sages taught that until we develop or enhance our perception, we cannot see things as they are.
So the work as a student of yoga, is to develop our inner world to understand the truth of the outer world. Then, it will be easier to guide ourselves inside and not only master the mind, the body and the moment, but learn to master the self in existence.
Then, the free fall becomes glee, pure joy and bliss because we stay present in the now. That is the only place you actually exist.
Swami Vivekananda said “You have to grow from the inside out. None can teach you, none can make you spiritual. There is no other teacher but your own soul.”
“All the powers in the universe are already ours. It is we who have put our hands before our eyes and cry that it is dark.”
“Whatever you think, that you will be. If you think yourself weak, weak you will be; if you think yourself strong, you will be.”
So, I encourage you all to step on the mat, sit down on your meditation pillow and do the work to develop the inner self. As that sense perception becomes more sensitive through the work, you’ll find that the experience of life will also change.
The more we do the work and come back to community to compare notes, the less lonely this experience towards self will feel. We recognize our struggles, our victories or whatever it may be. We hold a sacred shared story.
It’s an honor to provide space for your inner journey and your community!
